Questions about this notice or your data: info@knownatlas.com.

What we collect

Your account: your email address, the handle you choose, your password (stored only as a one-way hash) or, if you sign in with Google, your Google account identifier and email address. We also record when you accepted our terms, whether your email is verified, and your settings, such as your preferred currency and which emails you want.

Your collection: the slabs you claim (catalogue item, grader, grade and certification number), the verification photos you upload and a fingerprint of each photo that lets us spot the same photo being reused. We remove location and camera data from photos before we keep them. Public pages never show your identity, and certification numbers are shown only partly.

Your silent asks, wants and offers: the price you would sell at (encrypted and visible only to you), the items you are looking for, the offers and short messages you send or receive, and any deal that follows. If your offers reach the level where we check identity, we record the outcome of that check.

Security information: your device's browser name and a salted hash of your IP address for each signed-in session and for security records. We process your IP address briefly for rate limiting, and Cloudflare Turnstile checks that sign-ups come from a person.

Waitlist: if you joined the waitlist before sign-up opened, we keep what you told us then (role, interests, optional graders, value range and note), whether you agreed to updates, which version of this notice you saw and the campaign that brought you to us.

Why we use it and our lawful basis

To run your account, verify your slabs, pass offers between owners and hunters and arrange deals you agree to: this is necessary for our contract with you.

To keep Known Atlas secure and trustworthy, for example rate limiting, detecting reused photos, checking identity above an offer threshold and keeping an anonymous ownership history of each slab: our legitimate interest in protecting the service and its users.

To send service emails, such as verification results, offers, ownership reminders and the weekly summary: necessary for our contract with you. You can turn off the weekly summary in your account settings.

To send occasional news about Known Atlas to people who asked for it on the waitlist: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. Other users never see your identity or your collection. When an offer is accepted, our concierge team shares with the other party only what is needed to complete that deal, and tells you first.

We use service providers that process data on our instructions: our hosting provider, Cloudflare (DNS, human verification and photo storage), Resend (email delivery) and, if you choose to sign in with it, Google.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum. [To be confirmed with counsel.]

How long we keep it

Your account stays until you delete it. When you delete it we remove your email, handle, sign-in methods, sessions, wants, notifications and verification photos. We keep an anonymous record that the slab had a previous holder and, where a deal took place, the deal record without your contact details.

Verification photos are deleted about a year after a claim ends, and photos for checks that were never completed are deleted soon after their code expires. Photo fingerprints are kept, because they cannot be turned back into a photo and still help us detect reuse.

Waitlist entries are kept for up to 24 months after the pilot opens to you, or until you ask us to remove them. [Retention periods to be confirmed with counsel.]

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to receive it in a portable format. In your account settings you can download your data and delete your account yourself. For anything else, contact us at info@knownatlas.com.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this notice

If we change this notice we will update the version and date above, and tell you before any change that affects how we use data you have already given us.
